HELB Loan Application Requirements

Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) is mandated with ensuring that students access financing for their higher education in both TVET and universities for undergraduate programmes. Recently, HEF portal allows applicants to apply for HELB Scholarship and HELB Loan and Scholarship is only available for those placed by KUCCPS to public institutions. In order to apply for HELB Loan and HELB scholarship, there are requirements that an applicant MUST have to complete the application process. Hence, the reason for this article is to share HELB Loan application requirements.

HELB loan application can be done on Phone or PC and additionally can be done with the help of someone who understands at the cyber cafe. Applications for first time undergraduate and TVET application for the year 2024/2025 are open and students are advised to apply. HELB application are attended to on the first come first served basis. This means that the earlier you apply the earlier you are awarded and the earlier you get your loan and upkeep.

Applicants without IDs can also apply for the HELB loan and HELB scholarship using the KCSE index number for registration. The requirements are the same for those with ID and those without. The only difference comes in on the side of uploading ID card or Birth Certificate.

HELB Loan and HELB Scholarship Application Requirements and Documents

The following are the requirements you need to apply for HELB loan or HELB scholarship. Check and make sure you have them.

1. Valid Email Address belonging to the applicant
2. Phone Number either in applicant’s names or parent’s names if a minor
3. Both KCSE and KCPE index number and if sponsored in primary or secondary, letter of sponsorship in PDF format
4. University/College Admission Number for KUCCPS placed. Self sponsored you need also University/College Name, Course etc
5. Passport Size Photo (jpeg, jpg, png format) with dimensions of 300 x 250 pixesl
6. Copy of ID or Maisha Card scanned in PDF (both sides) or Birth Certificate for those under 19 years and lack ID card
7. Valid Bank Account or M-PESA registered on Applicant’s Name
8. Parents ID and registered phone numbers and occupation etc
9. Guarantors (2) and registered phone numbers, address, occupation if employed
