The introduction of the ID replacement charges has seen the need to establish an application portal through which the application can be done. The best place for that to happen is eCitizen of course. Apart from the application fee which in this case is Kshs. 1050, there are other ID replacement requirements that need to be uploaded online. The lost ID is also referred to as Duplicate Identity Card and the application is done online on eCitizen.
Requirements to Apply for Duplicate ID Online
Just like the previous manual applications for replacement of lost IDs were done at Huduma Centres, there are documents required as well. This time you need to apply through your phone or PC, upload necessary supporting documents and pay the application fee. Then carry the application form and invoice to Huduma Centre to initiate the processing of the new ID.

How to Apply for a Duplicate ID Card Online via eCitizen
The procedure is simple and doesn’t require lots of information. Any lost document has to be deported to the nearest police station. That way you are given a police Abstract indicating that you lost your ID card since it is a requirement to Apply for a duplicate ID card online. The procedure for the same is outlined below.
- Open your PC or Phone Browser
- In the browser search for eCitizen Portal and login using your eCitizen ID number and password. You can access eCitizen through this link – https://accounts.ecitizen.go.ke
- Verify the OTP to gain access to your eCitizen account.
- On the eCitizen Dashboard, click on the National Registration Bureau (NRB) portal or you can click this link https://nrb.ecitizen.go.ke and click on Sign In and click on Sign in with eCitizen then authorize your access by clicking on Continue.
- While on the portal scroll down and click on Issuance of Duplicate Identity Card and wait for it to load. Remember the application for the duplicate ID card is Kes. 1050.
- The portal will display your names, ID number, phone number and email address. Click on Next
- Select the Registration Office details i.e. the County, Sub County and the NRB Registration Office and click on Next
- Upload the Police Abstract in PDF form and also a copy of the ID or any document bearing the ID Number. And click on preview.
- Once satisfied everything is captured correctly, click on Submit and pay the Duplicate ID Card application fee of Kes. 1050.
- Download the Duplicate Identity Card application form and the invoice. And take them to the office you just selected.
