How to Apply for the NTSA Smart Driving License on eCitizen

National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) introduced Smart Driving Licenses back in the year 2018 when they started production. COVID hit and application of the same was halted for a while. NTSA allows professional drivers to renew their driving licenses annually or for three years. However, if one needs to renew for three years, they need to have or Apply for the NTSA Smart Driving License. This article will talk about the entire application process and what it entails when applying for Smart Driving License alias Smart DL.

Since the migration of NTSA services to eCitizen, all these applications for renewal and application of Smart DL can be done on eCitizen as well. The portal goes ahead to offer other services that are but not limited to driving license alone. This article, however will focus on the application of a Smart Driving License only.

Requirements to Apply for the NTSA Smart Driving License

1. Have a valid driving license or Interim Driving License
2. Have your blood group
3. Place of Birth and Area of Residence
4. Smart Driving License Application fees which is Kshs. 3050

How to Apply for the NTSA Smart Driving License

Below is the procedure that one can follow to apply for the Smart DL. Check out and follow the procedure keenly to the end.

• On your device, open your browser on either your phone or PC
• In the browser, type the eCitizen URL – https://accounts.ecitizen.go.ke
• Click on Login if you have an account or Sign Up if you lack one.
• Enter your Login Details i.e. ID number/Email and eCitizen password
• Once logged in Click on National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) (New) or simply click on https://serviceportal.ntsa.go.ke/dashboard
• Click on Services on the top menu then click on Apply for Smart Driving License and fill in the required details
• Select Biometrics Capture Centre click on Submit and pay the required fees. Click on Book Now to choose the date for biometrics.
