Thanks to eCitizen you can now apply for a Temporary Permit online and additionally pay for it on the same portal. What you get after application is the temporary permit itself and invoice for payment. A Temporary Permit is a document that allows Kenyans to travel to East African countries without needing an official passport for their travels. The Temporary Permit is usually valid for a period of 1 year from the time of processing or applying. This article will deal with how to apply for the Temporary Permit online and additional payments and documents required.

Temporary Permit application is just an easy step. It does not involve a lot of information like passport applications. To note though attachments are also needed for temporary permit application before payment. This will include a passport photo on white background. These are uploaded online and the permit will feature the photo attached above.

Temporary Permit will allow you to travel to the following countries

  • Tanzania
  • Uganda
  • South Sudan
  • Burundi
  • Rwanda

Requirements to Apply for the Temporary Permit

For Temporary Permit application, make sure you have with you the following details:-

  • Height, Place of Residence, Country traveling to, occupation
  • National ID and copy for adults and birth certificate and copy for minors
  • Passport Photo – White Background
  • Next of Kin – ID Numbers, Names and Phone Number

Temporary Permit Application Procedure

This is the procedure for temporary permit application online. Follow it to the latter and print the temporary permit at the end.

  • On your handset be it a phone or PC, open the browser and search for eCitizen. Click on Login and enter your ID number or email plus the eCitizen Password. Click on Login and enter the OTP sent to your phone or email.
  • On the logged in eCitizen Dashboard located the panel showing Departments of Immigration Services and click on it. Or simply click on this link https://dis.ecitizen.go.ke/dashboardhttps://dis.ecitizen.go.ke/dashboard
  • Scroll down and click on Temporary Permit and select the applicant if self or for a minor then click on Next
  • Fill in the personal details required and complete it by filling in the next of kin information and validated. Click Next after payment.
  • Upload the Passport Passport Photo with a white background and submit your application.
  • You’re redirected to the payment page, click on M-PESA and send the prompt to your phone to pay the Kes. 350 for the permit. Click on Complete and Print the documents that have been processed. The invoice and the temporary permit itself.

Temporary Permit Application Fees

Temporary Permits are cheap as compared to passports. A Temporary permit is just a piece of normal paper that can’t warrant you different travels. Therefore the charges for the same are quite low. Below are the permit application fees.

The Temporary Permit fees are Kes. 300 for the permit and Kes. 50 for eCitizen convenience fee. The total you pay is Kes. 350
