How to Book Vehicle Inspection using eCitizen

Motor Vehicle Inspection is a procedure carried out by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to ensure that vehicles conform to laid down regulations. Motor Vehicle inspection is done occasionally for instance when one intends to change color, change engine, body type, number of passengers, etc. For commercial vehicles, a vehicle inspection is done every year to ascertain if the vehicle is roadworthy. In this article, you will learn how to Book Vehicle Inspection using the new NTSA Platform.

Late last year NTSA shifted from the previous TIMSVIRL system for inspection, booking, transfer, etc to eCitizen. Driving licenses were the first ones to be transferred. Vehicle Inspection can now be done on the new NTSA service portal whose login details are the eCitizen credentials. The system also does, vehicle transfers, reflective number plate applications and so much more.

As we proceed to the main purpose of this article, by the end of it, you will be able to book for vehicle inspection on your own. To book using eCitizen, make sure the vehicle is registered with the ID used to login to the eCitizen portal. Below is the procedure on how to go about it.

  • Open your browser on your PC or Phone
  • In the address bar search eCitizen or just type in https://accounts.ecitizen.go.ke
  • Login to eCitizen using your ID number and eCitizen password
  • Once loaded, click on the first link National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) (New) or just click https://serviceportal.ntsa.go.ke/dashboard to log in direct
  • Confirm and Agree to Sign in to the NTSA service portal
  • The driving license details appear on the left, on the Right there are application items such as renewal of Driving License, PDLs etc.
  • Click on Inspections on the top menu and wait for the list of vehicles to load on the NTSA Portal.
  • Locate the vehicle you wish to book or simply Search in the search bar above vehicles. At the right side of the vehicle click on Book
  • The system will display the vehicle details, scroll down to select the type of inspection i.e. Annual, Change of Particulars or New Inspection and click on Next
  • Select Submit and pay Kshs. 1,050 using M-PESA on the eCitizen platform. Print the invoice once done click on Book to select the Inspection Centre and date of Inspection.
  • Download both the invoice and booking slip and proceed to inspection centre.
