There’s also an option for being able to change the hospital or outpatient facility on NHIF. This comes in handy as you as the principal member can be in a different location and a dependant is also in another place. Changing and updating the NHIF records for principal members and dependants is always needed. It should be done and kept up to date.

A dependant or the principal member will only receive treatment through NHIF if they are admitted or treated in the outpatient facility selected. Additionally, change the outpatient facility using the online portal.

How to Change Outpatient Facility on NHIF

Any individual who knows how to use a smartphone or PC can be able to change the hospital or facility on NHIF. The facilities menu appears on the NHIF Self Care Portal that allows individuals to check dependants, and contributions and also be able to change dependant hospitals.

All you need to have before changing the hospital or outpatient facility are the following: –

1. Member ID Number
2. Member Phone Number registered with NHIF and active
3. The outpatient facility to choose and the county it is located
4. The NHIF Self Care Portal – https://selfcare.nhif.or.ke/

The Procedure – How to Change Hospital on NHIF Card

The procedure that can be followed to be able to change the outpatient facility on NHIF is outlined below:

• On your device (Phone or PC) open the web browser and search for the NHIF website and look for the menu item Self Care and click on it. You can additionally access the direct link to the NHIF Self Care portal – https://selfcare.nhif.or.ke/
• On the loaded NHIF Self Care Portal, select the login option to sign in with NHIF or eCitizen. Note either way works perfectly fine.
• Click on Sign in with NHIF and enter your ID Number and click on Get OTP
• Confirm the OTP sent to phone from NHIF. Key in the OTP to be able to login to the NHIF Self-Care Portal.
• On the left panel, click on Facilities. Proceed to select the County and Hospital of choice from the populated list.
