A Business Name is the simplest business form under which one can operate a business. The Business Name is not a legal entity. It simply refers to a person who owns the business and is personally responsible for its debts.
Requirements to Register a Business Name Online
- An eCitizen account of the proprietor (the person registering the business)
- At least 3 names beginning with the order of preference i.e. Nangmak Solutions or Nangmak Media etc
- Postal Address and Location of the Business
- The Proprietor/Owner’s Details i.e. ID Number, Phone Number, Email, Residential Place, Passport Photo
- Signed BN2 form upon registration just before payment
- Business Name Registration Fee of Kshs. 950
How to Register a Business Name Online using BRS
- Visit eCitizen Portal/Dashboard
- Click on Login and provide your ID Number or Email and eCitizen Password and click on Login. Provide the OTP sent to the phone. In case the phone is different, you can change it here.
- Once logged in, Click on Business Registration Service or simply click BRS Portal link
- Note that Business Names have been shifted to BRSV2 hence the URL is here
- Click on Company Registry Services
- Click Apply on Registration Of A Business Name
- Enter the Proposed Names the three of them and proceed to Applicant’s Details indicate if the proprietor or lawyer and key in the Postal Address
- Give the nature of business being what the business will be doing and try to be as specific as possible. General supplies will be rejected. Probably supply of stationery, provision of media service, etc
- Fill in the Registered Address (County, Road, Building Name etc) and also provide the Owner’s Details including uploading of the photo
- Under Application Documents download the BN2 form, print, sign it and scan. Re-upload the signed BN2 form and confirm that everything is correct and proceed to pay Kshs. 950 through eCitizen
- Wait for notification of approval or correction
