The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) introduced a new NTSA Platform for the renewal of driving licenses and applications for new ones or PDLs. Additional services that have been included in the new NTSA platform include motor vehicle services. The system allows drivers to have valid driving licenses by renewing existing ones. By the end of this article, you will learn how to renew your driving license using the new NTSA platform.

New drivers can be tested and have their licenses updated. Those without can also apply for a Provisional Driving License, apply for Interim License, and also apply for Smart Driving License. You can also apply for Endorsement PDL and PSV Badges for drivers for institutions or schools. Driving license renewal done using the new NTSA Platform on eCitizen.

How to Renew Driving License Using the New NTSA Platform

In this article, this procedure is for renewing the virtual driving license for one year. The virtual DL usually printed and laminated. However, the same procedure applies to the smart DL as well. You just follow the procedure to the latter for the one-year driving license renewal. Follow the procedure below but make sure you have a passport-size photo and at least Kshs. 700 in your M-PESA.

  • Open your mobile or PC browser
  • Search for eCitizen Portal and login using your login credentials. If asked to change the password please do so.
  • Enter the OTP sent to phone and login to access the eCitizen Portal
  • Once the portal has loaded, click on National Transport And Safety Authority (NTSA) (New) or simply click on https://serviceportal.ntsa.go.ke/dashboard
  • Then click on Renew on the left side panel
  • Wait for the page to load. If it is the Smart DL it will renew that one. If you’re yet to apply for the Smart DL, you will be prompted to select Virtual Driving License (One Year), select it.
  • Enter your Place of Birth
  • Choose your Blood Group
  • Select the Country of Residence, County, and Physical Address
  • Click on Next and Upload Passport Photo
  • Click on Submit to redirect to the Payment Page
  • Pay using eCitizen paybill number 222222 and Complete Payment
  • Download the Driver’s License and laminate
