How to reverse an M-PESA using available normal SMS shortcode. This entails sending the transaction message to the number 456. Thereafter Safaricom takes up the action to follow up on the transaction and reverse it if the other party hasn’t used the money yet.
- Once the M-PESA transaction is done, locate the M-PESA transaction message for the specific transaction.
- Forward the M-PESA message to 456
- Wait for confirmation from Safaricom with the message “Dear Customer, you reversal request has been received and is being processed. We shall update shortly.”
- If the other party has already used the money Safaricom will inform you so and it will be impossible to reverse.
How to Reverse an M-PESA Transaction using the M-PESA App
Safaricom records all transactions. And if you have done the transaction using the M-PESA app, it is easy even to reverse the transaction. Below is the procedure on how to reverse using the M-PESA app.
- Once an M-PESA transaction is done, you will see records of the transactions on the app.
- Tap on the specific transaction to open it. Below the transaction has action items such as Add to Favorites, Reverse Transaction, Download Receipt, and an option to share the transaction details.
- Tap on Reverse Transaction and it will be recorded.
- Safaricom will proceed to attend to the reversal request and provide you with a response.
