Licenses One Can Apply through EPRA Online Services Portal

EPRA is the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) previously operating under the name ERC – Energy Regulatory Commission. The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) is established as the successor to the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) under the Energy Act, 2019 with an expanded mandate of inter alia regulation of upstream petroleum and coal. In this article, we look at the Licenses One Can Apply through EPRA Online Services Portal.

The functions of the Authority as provided in Section 10 of the Energy Act 2019 include the regulation of: –

• Generation, importation, exportation, transmission, distribution, supply and use of electrical energy except licensing of nuclear facilities;
• Importation, refining, exportation, transportation, storage and sale of petroleum and petroleum products except crude oil;
• Production, conversion, distribution, supply, marketing and use of renewable energy
• Exploration, extraction, production, processing, transportation, storage exportation, importation and sale of coal bed methane gas and other energy forms;

The Authority also regulates, monitors and supervises upstream petroleum operations in Kenya by the law relating to petroleum. It also provides such information and statistics about upstream petroleum operations in Kenya to the Cabinet Secretary responsible  for matters relating to petroleum as may be required from time to time.

Any individuals intending to run a business within the petroleum, sector and other energy sectors, require licensing from EPRA.
