Ministry of Education Postpones Opening Dates to May 6th 2024

The Ministry of Education in the wee hours of the night released a press release postponing the second term opening date. The Ministry of Education has directed all schools to receive students opening the schools from 6th May 2024. This is attributed to the fact that some schools especially in Nairobi have been adversely affected by the ongoing rains that have rendered the roads impassable. Additionally, some schools cannot be accessed due to the flooding.

This comes at such a time when many parents were contemplating not sending their students to schools because of the rains. Many parents would have held their kids back from going to schools for the safety of their lives.

Some schools have already opened or some students have already been seen reporting to schools around the country. Those who come from schools that are safe I believe can remain in schools up to Monday next week. However, the newsletter or press release is for all schools in Kenya, primary and secondary schools.

Ministry of Education New Opening Dates

New Second Term Opening Dates

The Ministry of Education has directed through the press release seen on their Twitter page in the night. The new second term opening dates have been pushed to Monday next week i.e. 6th May 2024. Parents can remain with their children until such a date when another directive will be given if the rains the flooding subsides in such areas line Nairobi.

For safety reasons it is ethical that students be withheld from reporting than have them carried away by water.

Parents can also focus on finding resources i.e. fees for an extra one week before sending their children to schools. This way it will be safer to say that parents will be paying fees and also adjusting to make sure the children are not sent back for fees arrears.
