New KRA Paybill Number; How to Pay for KRA taxes using M-PESA

Kenya Revenue Authority is the Government’s revenue collector from all avenues be it small business enterprises to big multinational companies. KRA enables individuals to submit their monthly returns and get a share to pay to the national treasury. Individuals do declare returns known as Value Added Tax (VAT), Monthly Rental Income, Instalment Tax, Turnover Tax (TOT) and so much more. Individuals have always used the bank to do payment of taxes but others have been using the old KRA paybill number 572572 which is now obsolete following the government’s directive. Any payment sent to the old business number will not go through as the payment has been shifted to the new paybill number.

Back to business, individuals and businesses can now continue paying their taxes through the new KRA paybill number 222222 as shared by the company. The institution has also updated the payment slips to reflect the new paybill number for ease of revenue collection.

How to Pay KRA Taxes using 222222 Paybill using M-PESA

Before you can pay for anything on KRA, you need a specific document generated for the specific payment. For instance, you might own the institution 200,000 but have 50,000, so generating a payment slip reduces the issues with payment being untraceable. Therefore you need to generate a payment slip before paying for the taxes via M-PESA or bank. Below is the procedure on how to pay the taxes using M-PESA.

• Visit the KRA Portal website and log in with your KRA PIN and password specific to your KRA PIN.
• Once logged in, hover on Payments and Click on Payment Registration. Fill in the required details and pick the amount you wish to pay for the taxes declared. Additionally, you can visit the KRA offices to have an eslip generated for slip.
• Once done, download the Payment Slip at the top right corner there’s a Payment Registration Number beginning with 2020 note down the number
• Go to your M-PESA and choose Lipa na M-PESA option
• Select Paybill option and enter Business No. 222222 the new KRA paybill number
• Under account number enter the Payment Registration Number
• Enter the Amount you wish to pay
• Enter M-PESA PIN and wait for confirmation that money is being paid to eCitizen.
• Receive a confirmation from both M-PESA and KRA confirming payment.
