There are several teachers training colleges in Kenya. Teachers Service Commission (TSC) employs teachers who have received relevant training in teaching. The teachers additionally have to be registered with TSC to be able and qualify to teach. In this article, we share a list of Public TTCs or Teachers’ Training Colleges in Kenya and those available on the KUCCPS.
The Teachers’ Training Colleges offer training in both Diploma and Certificate courses that are related to teaching. These include a Diploma in Primary Teacher Education(DPTE), a Diploma in Teacher Education (DTE), a Diploma in ECDE, and a Diploma in Special Needs Education (DSNE). These courses range from certificate courses i.e. ECDE and Primary Teacher Education (which has been discontinued though).
For a Diploma in Teacher Education, one needs to have scored a C+ (Plus) in KCSE. Other subject requirements include a C (Plain) in English, and a C+ (Plus) in two teaching subjects. For humanities, one needs a D+ (Plus) in Maths and a C (Plain) in Maths for Sciences.
